[CONCERT REVIEW] - MARIO @ The IndigO2

What an evening. Held at the IndigO2 Greenwhich, the show started around 7pm.  We didn't arrive til after 8pm unaware that I was even going to the Mario concert. (We were actually just told to check out a UK RnB act by the name of Raheem Bakare, who happened to be an opening act. Which we didn't even see due to our late arrival.)

Anyway, made it to our seats in time to see FDM leave the stage, followed by an energetic performance from UK's Teezy.  He had the girls screaming but besides that has great stage presence, Chris Browning it with the dance moves, complimented by some great tracks and  definitely growing as an artist.  Cynthia Erivo later blessed everyone with her beautiful voice starting with her own rendition of 'Telephone' by Lady Gaga followed by two original tracks and a cover of Seal's 'Kiss From a Rose', but I would say that song is best left alone as only Seal's distinct voice can really give it the real justice it deserves.

By this point the predominantly female audience were restless and screaming for Mario to hit the stage. Only to be somewhat disappointed when American artist Da-Ni was introduced and to be fair someone should have "Da-Nied" his access to the stage because while he may have had a hit with R Kelly out in the States, his slick pony and dead "hype" man had no real connection over here. So while his efforts were appreciated I for one couldn't wait to see his exit.

Host Kat kept the audience warmed and chuckling with his usual obscenity and madness, stating he needs his medication again, while Mario's band sorted technical difficulties. Mario hit the stage and it was a WRAP! Little did my dude friend know what he got himself into as Mario was a crush for me during my early teens so I immediately reverted to 13 year old self to which he insisted I get a grip haha!  Mario started with his debut single 'Just a Friend' and continued through other classics like 'Crying Out For Me,' 'Chick With The Braids,' 'How Could You' and more recent tracks like 'Music For Love.' Envy choked the air as he intimately serenaded a member of the audience whilst singing 'Braid My Hair' into her ear. During the show, the audience witnessed a more cool and laid back Mario, minus all the dance routines, who is definitely become a grown man as he didn't fail to remind us at the start of 'Braid My Hair' by singing the original lines, 'When you look at me, I know you see a 15-year old' and cut to say '...But I'm a f****** man now!'  He really did get through all the classics and to be honest the concert really reminded me of just how many he actually has and how great an artist he is.  And to top it off he finished on last years banger 'Break Up' featuring Gucci Mane which is definitely one of my favourites.

So again, great turn out, great music and just a great night from Mario.  Fellas if you took your lady there very smart move. Now I'm about to jump on iTunes and download some more of his tracks.
