[LIVE MUSIC] ILUVLIVE - FINAL SUMMER SPECIAL [28/09/10]

So I made it down to this years final Summer Special ILUVLIVE event last night @ Queen of Hoxton in the heart of EC London, and another good night for live music it was, with music from Meleka and Davinche .

Missing a whole hour of the show, I arrived during the interval and grabbed my bevvy in time to see London born, reggae artist and producer Klaye skip onto the stage.  Though London born Klaye's spent much of his time in Jamaica honing his skills and with many different musical influences a unique rock influenced, bluesy reggae is the outcome.  Not so much feeling his vocal too strongly, his songwriting is pretty impressive however, with a great emotive performance.  After performing his own compositions 'She no give me love' and 'She no dance reggae' he hit us with his own version of Duffy's 'Mercy.'

UK Funky's Meleka followed up with and r'n'b rendition of her funky banger 'Go,' which I might say was a nice touch.  Never seen her perform live before but she really did show that she can blow.  Switchin' it up nicely the band dropped into a live version of Chris Brown's 'Deuces,' with her vocal starting a lil off but still the tracks a monster and with their mix into a funky version, most heads in the audience got to bubbling.  The one thing I liked most about her performance is the fact that she looked like she was just having fun with it, and in turn it seemed the audience enjoyed the performance as much as it looked like she was.

Now, an interesting performance from heavy-weight, UK producer Davinche shortly followed, which was slightly disappointing.  Well not disappointing in the fact that he's beats are undeniably massive and he can easily be argued to be a musical genius but disappointing in the fact that the performance was a little disjointed.  So, Davinche and band kicked off with big track 'Riding For Love,' with absolutely amazing vocals from Cleo Sol.  I mean the girl can sing! Seriously, best vocals of the night by far.  Then he continued with short snippets (because obviously the artists aren't there to perform the full song) of other tracks he'd produced for the likes of Tinchy Stryder and Tinie Tempah, Cleo Sol again on the vocals for 'Tears,' crazy!  Ok so him being a producer and all, he explains it wouldn't be right for him not to show us all how he does what he does in the studio.  So I'm all expecting him to buss into some Ryan Leslie 'The Making Of...' kinda shit (if you haven't seen the vids on Youtube I suggest you have look, impressive stuff)  and watch him quickly fling together a track, which in my opinion would have been dope.  Instead he goes over to the keyboard saying first he starts with the beat, goes to play a beat, which doesn't kick in until the drummer realises his cue and joins in couple seconds late, to which it appeared Davinche then decided to abandon that idea and just have the rest of the band members join in.  I don't know, but not impressive.  But back to the music, the track is a song he vocals himself, and featured Baby Blue who made a quick appearance to drop her bars.  She's a little bomb waiting to explode, bags of energy, not the best vocal from her but still a good song.

I didn't hang about for the open mic session though, which I'm now wandering why but it was a good night. Ras Kwame doing his thing as always and Twin B still spinning them head nodders but I do think the nights are getting a little dried up.  Hopefully they'll come back with some bigger shows in a little while.

  4. First off I would like to say superb blog! I had a quick question which I'd like to ask if you do not mind. I was curious to know how you center yourself and clear your thoughts before writing. I have had a difficult time clearing my thoughts in getting my thoughts out there. I do take pleasure in writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are usually lost just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or tips? Thank you!
